Agriculture in Cameroon is a key driver of economic growth. Its contribution is crucial both to guaranteeing the self-sufficiency and food security needed to feed the population, but also, it is an essential resource for conquering markets. It is a natural treasure, as the President of the Republic recalled during the Ebolowa Agropastoral Show in 2011, ” Agriculture, I repeat, is our true wealth .”
However, this activity, as valuable as it may be, requires a rational organization that ensures a certain gain from all its potential. All aspects of the chain of this activity will lead to a productive agriculture, capable of processing, and thus achieve flourishing marketing. But, beyond structural reforms, there is the imperative of a true culture of agriculture. At the forefront of this forward-looking vision, the Head of State invited Cameroonians to engage in agriculture, to guarantee the sustainability of the workforce that this field of activity needs. And at the heart of this orientation, young people occupy a central place. Addressing them, the Head of State is clear and formal: ” I urge you to bring about a real revolution in mentalities… The land does not betray. Do not be afraid to take the plunge.” Be the agricultural entrepreneurs that Cameroon needs ,” (Message from the Head of State to the youth, February 10, 2016.)
This is a real revolution in mentalities that suggests promoting the work of the land and establishing it as a real economy. It is in this perspective that the role of communication is inscribed in a posture of intermediation and facilitation . Communicating here supposes: information, visibility, display and popularization . To know, appropriate and flourish in this activity.
Removing psychological barriers, “democratizing” agricultural activity, and promoting work on the land certainly involve the vectors of communication which must bring people of the land, Cameroonians, closer to their agriculture to make it a real economic force.
The earth needs our arms…. Let’s get to work
