MISSIONS of the Minister
Article 1:
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is placed under the authority of a Minister, assisted by a Minister Delegate responsible for Rural Development.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating government policy in the areas of agriculture and rural development. In this capacity, he or she is responsible for:
- a) In agricultural matters:
– The development, planning and implementation of government programs relating to agriculture and rural development;
– The development of regulations and standards, as well as the monitoring of their application; – The monitoring and protection of the various agricultural sectors;
– The phytosanitary protection of plants;
– The design of strategies and modalities to guarantee food security and self-sufficiency as well as the monitoring of their implementation;
– The identification and promotion of new agricultural productions for export; – The collection, production and analysis of agricultural statistics;
– The dissemination of agricultural information and advice to producers;
– The coordination of crisis management situations in agriculture;
– The monitoring of professional agricultural organizations;
– The promotion of investments, medium and large farms in the agricultural sector;
– Agricultural and cooperative education and the monitoring of agricultural and cooperative education and the monitoring of private agricultural education, in liaison with the Ministry responsible for vocational training.
- (b) In matters of rural development:
– Supervision of farmers and agricultural extension;
– Participation in the planning of programs to improve the living environment in rural areas, in liaison with the relevant Ministries;
– Monitoring the implementation of programs to improve the living environment in rural areas;
– Promotion of community development;
– Rural engineering.
It ensures the supervision of development structures in rural areas as well as that of the “Cameroon Development Corporation”, the Cocoa Development Company and the Chamber of Agriculture, Livestock and Forestry. It ensures liaison with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Food Program, in particular.
Article 2 :
To carry out its missions, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has:
– a Special Secretariat;
– two (02) Technical Advisors;
– a General Inspectorate;
– a Central Administration;
– Decentralized Services;
– Attached Services.
